The delivery and funding of support services for older people and people with disabilities is changing. The Australian Government is:

  • reforming the aged care service system
  • reviewing the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS).

With these upcoming changes we need to know how we can best support:

  • our current clients, their carers and families
  • older people and people with disabilities in the future.

At the moment we deliver:

  • selected aged care programs to approved people over 65 years of age. These are Australian Government funded
  • selected aged care programs to approved Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander people over 50 years of age. These are Australian Government funded
  • a small range of services for people with disabilities under 65 years of age who are ineligible for NDIS services. These are Victorian Government funded.

The Australian Government has been making changes to aged care services for a few years. They started the reform to put older Australians first. Their goal is to create:

  • trusted, safe and high quality care
  • fair access
  • sustainable care for an ageing population
  • improve accountability and transparency.

The way the Commonwealth Home Support Program is funded and delivered is changing.

In the next few years you will decide who delivers your services from a wider choice of providers.

This is a powerful and positive change for our older residents.

The NDIS supports the independent, social and economic participation of people with disability. People who are ineligible to receive the NDIS rely on community based services and supports.

The recent NDIS review recommends ways to meet the needs of people with disability.

Our Home and Community Care Program for Younger People provides basic support for people to live independently in their home. We will review any changes the Victorian Government may make in response to the NDIS review
