Project Update
Council is planning improvements to Copernicus Way Reserve to create a more welcoming and functional space for the community.
Feedback received from the community over the years is currently being reviewed to inform a draft design.
The community will have another opportunity to comment on the updated draft plan, which is expected to be available in 2026.
Community feedback will help finalise the design.

You had lots of great ideas!
While we heard lots of great ideas, there are some things we can’t include in the current park design.
Your input genuinely shapes how we plan and deliver community spaces, and we want to be upfront about what is possible at this site — and what isn’t.
As part of our process, we need to check the native grasses and ecology at the reserve. The assessment completed, shows the site has strong native grass coverage. Because of this, we are limited in what we can build without harming the environment. You can read more about the natural environment in Brimbank here.
Because of this, there are several community‑requested features that cannot be delivered at this location:
- Toilet
- Wetland
- Fenced dog off‑leash area
- BBQ facilities
- Splash park
- Community garden
We know these features matter to many residents, and we want to reassure you that they are not off the table entirely.
The good news is that we have a much larger nearby space — Willys Ave Reserve — where these types of facilities may be more suitable. Planning and design work for this reserve will begin in the coming years, and the community will be actively consulted throughout that process.
We see this as an opportunity to explore the ideas you’ve already shared, along with any new ones that emerge as planning progresses.

Consultation Process - 2023
We are upgrading Copernicus Way Reserve in Keilor Downs to improve the facilities and create a wetland.
The wetland will capture stormwater, filter and re-use it in the park to water the grass and garden beds. It will service a future public toilet, and provide a cool, green and attractive park to use all year round.
Proposed works
- New play equipment and larger play area
- BBQ facilities, shelter, picnic setting and drinking fountain
- integrated water sensitive treatment and irrigation system
- a full size basketball/netball court and fitness stations
- new pathways
- choose a location for a future public toilet.
We want to know how you currently use Copernicus Way Reserve and if our proposed works meet your needs.
