Update - February 2026

Council carried out focused community engagement to help shape the Draft Statement of Commitment for a Safe and Inclusive Brimbank. This included an online Your Say Brimbank survey, open from 4 to 31 December 2025, and a pop‑up session held on 10 December during the 16 Days of Activism. These activities invited people who live, work, or study in Brimbank — as well as stakeholders in safety, inclusion, and wellbeing — to share their views.

Across both activities, community members shared their thoughts on safety in public spaces, social inclusion, gender equity, and local programs. Their feedback offered useful insights into Council’s current work and priorities. It was thoughtful and showed a strong understanding of local issues.

Community feedback confirmed that the Draft Statement is on the right track. It showed that Council’s priorities match local needs and lived experience. The input supported finalising the Statement and continuing current work on safety, inclusion, gender equity, and homelessness. Council will keep the community informed through meetings and reports, giving people chances to stay engaged as the work continues.

The draft went to the council on 17 February 2026, and every councillor voted in favour of adopting the Statement of Commitment for a Safe and Inclusive Brimbank.

About this project

About This Project

Community safety and social inclusion is a priority for Brimbank City Council. It shapes how people interact in our neighbourhoods, streets, parks, community facilities and services. A safer and more inclusive Brimbank means better health outcomes, stronger social connections, and improved economic opportunities.

Community safety is a shared responsibility across all levels of government, police, service providers, grassroots organisations, business, and the individuals in the community.

The Draft Statement of Commitment for a Safe and Inclusive Brimbank outlines Council’s role and approach to community safety.

Council plays a primary prevention and early intervention role in community safety. This means we work to address underlying issues to prevent harm from occurring. For example, Council runs local programs and activities that encourage positive use of public spaces, such as community events, youth activities and social connection programs.

Council supports community safety and inclusion by advocating for local needs, maintaining safe public spaces and promoting community activation, and partnering with services to prevent harm and address underlying issues.
