The West Sunshine 20 Minute Neighbourhood is all about ‘living locally’. Giving people the ability to meet most of their daily needs within a 20-minute walk from home. With access to safe cycling and local transport options.

Glengala Village is being improved by:

  • Street greening

Replanting existing garden beds and planters. And installation of new temporary planters.

  • Shop front improvements

Up to 10 traders selected for help with the redesign and refreshment of their shop fronts. Some of the street furniture was also reconfigured and new bike hoops added.

  • Pop up parks

New off-street pop up park with more seating and shading. The outdoor dining initiative also contributed with a temporary public parklet. Now even more space to relax and enjoy a meal from your favourite local café or restaurant

  • Traffic-calming road art

To reinvigorate the area, slow down traffic and prioritise pedestrians.

We asked the local community to submit design ideas for the new road art installation. The final road art design is inspired by patterns and drawings. It adds colour, vibrancy and helps brighten up your local shopping strip.

Safety is our priority

We have followed all the recommendations of an independent road safety audit.

The paint used is skid resistant (even in the rain) and road certified, like the paint used for line marking.

Vic Roads has authorised a temporary speed limit reduction to 20km/hr. Temporary signage is in place to help, so please be aware of the new limits. We will also be installing:

  • a raised pedestrian crossing on the east side (towards the roundabout)
  • speed cushions on the west side (across Simmie Street).

Funding

We received funding for the project from:

  • State Government
  • Department of Jobs Precincts and Regions
  • Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning.

Thank you to the West Sunshine community for submitting the many wonderful patterns for the road art. We have used these to inspire the traffic calming road art along the Glengala Road shopping strip.
