The draft Lifelong Learning Strategy 2024-2029 is an approach for Council and its partners to improve the social and economic wellbeing of our community.

Over 300 people gave feedback on the draft strategy during phase 1 consultation. This what you told us:

  • you liked the life stage approach as it includes everyone
  • you want the strategy to be in plain English so it’s understandable
  • you would like to see more opportunities for volunteering
  • you want to see more opportunities for families, young people, and older people to learn together
  • more opportunities for women who can’t come to learning activities because they have to care for children and elderly parents
  • you valued intergenerational learning as older people have a lot to give back to the community
  • digital literacy and English language skills are important
  • helping young and senior people into education, employment and community life after lockdowns
  • helping very young children who spent much of their lives in lockdown to be ready for school.

We used your feedback to:

  • simplify the language in the strategy as much as possible
  • develop the aims and objectives in each of the life stages
  • create the guiding principles around Learning Together.

The aims of the priority areas in each life stage are

  • Priority 1

Supported learning environments for babies and preschool children at home and in the community.

  • Priority 2

School age children and teenagers in Brimbank have access to a wide range of engaging and practical learning opportunities.

  • Priority 3

Young people have positive further education, employment and learning opportunities and choices

  • Priority 4

Adults take part in lifelong learning for quality of life, creativity, employment and social connections.

  • Priority 5

The community builds on the experience and knowledge of older adults to support intergenerational partnerships.

  • Priority 6

Recognise lifelong learning is part of healthy ageing.
