We're reviewing our Road Management Plan, which guides how we inspect, maintain, and repair municipal roads, footpaths, and associated assets.
The Road Management Plan (the plan) sets out how often we conduct proactive road and footpath inspections. It outlines the measures used to decide if one of these assets needs to be repaired.
The plan also sets the timeframe for completing a reactive inspection. This means that when a hazard is reported by the community, we will attend the location to inspect the report within a set number of working days. These timeframes are based on factors like traffic volume and the risk caused by the hazard.
This plan ensures we meet our responsibilities under the Road Management Act 2004 and maintain a safe and effective road network.
What roads are covered by the plan?
The plan covers roads managed by Council. That includes our local roads and footpaths.
The plan does not cover arterial roads. That means freeways, highways and declared main roads. These are managed by the Victorian Government through the Department of Transport. It also doesn’t cover roads on private property, or in state forests and reserves.
Council maintains a Register of Public Roads to help you identify if a road is managed by Council or by the Department of Transport.
We are now seeking your input before finalising the updated plan for 2025–2029.
