What is a Social Inclusion Action Group?

The Social Inclusion Action Group (SIAG) is a new community-led group funded by the State Government in response to the Royal Commission into Victoria’s Mental Health System. We’re looking for passionate community members who care about building stronger community connections.

SIAG Brimbank members will explore how loneliness makes people feel. Then, they will work together to identify real solutions to help everyone feel included, valued, and connected in Brimbank.

We are inviting expressions of interest from community members who want to help create a more socially connected Brimbank.

Why Your Voice Matters

We’re especially keen to hear from people who:

  • Have lived experience of social isolation, exclusion, or marginalisation.
  • Work or volunteer in the social or community sector.
  • Are deeply connected to a cultural, youth, LGBTQIA+, Disability, First Nations, or other community groups or networks.

Share your voice to improve connection and belonging in Brimbank.

As a SIAG Brimbank member, you will:

  • Attend regular meetings (every 2 weeks for the first 4-6 months, then monthly).
  • Share your ideas on what helps or improves social inclusion.
  • Work with other SIAG members to understand what our community needs.
  • As a group, decide what solutions you want to fund.
  • Help shape projects that improve belonging and social connection across Brimbank.

You don’t need any qualifications — just a willingness to learn, work together, and bring your experiences to the table.

We will select members who, as a group, have a good balance of skills and experiences. We are looking for people who:

  • Can work well with others, respecting different backgrounds and opinions.
  • Know their community well and have personal experience with diversity or social isolation.
  • Speak up for the community fairly and take part without promoting their own agenda.
  • Have the ability and connections to make a real difference in their community.

  • Be available for meetings after 5pm on Tuesdays (online or in-person)
  • Be willing to undergo a Reference Check, Working with Children Check and Police Check (at no cost to you)

SIAG Brimbank works to listen to and amplify new and unheard voices. It aims to share opportunities throughout the community. For this reason, members of SIAG Brimbank may NOT:
