Project update - 4 August 2022

Thank you for your feedback on this project. The consultation has closed.

We’re upgrading the Suffolk Road Shopping Centre between Compton Parade and Holehouse Street in Sunshine North.

We want to enhance the look and character of this area to create an attractive, pedestrian-friendly centre where you will want to shop, relax and spend more time.

Through consultation with the community in December 2021, we learned that current key concerns include:

  • poor amenity for pedestrians
  • lack of greenery
  • car dominated
  • lack of shade
  • the condition and width of the footpath
  • urban heat vulnerability
  • safety issues for cyclists.

To address these concerns, we’re proposing:

  • wider pathways
  • space for on-street dining
  • street furniture
  • trees and garden beds.

The upgrade is part of Council’s Capital Works Program for 2022-23.
