Council looks after important public assets, like buildings, parks, playgrounds, roads, footpaths, stormwater drains, sports centres, and community halls.

We’ve created a draft 10-Year Asset Plan (2025–2035) to help guide how we look after, fix, and build these public assets.

The draft plan outlines Council’s commitment to ensure that the community has access to assets that are safe, clean, and well-maintained, both now and for future generations to enjoy.

Now, we want your feedback to help make sure we’re doing what the community really needs.

  • What are Assets?

Assets are the things that Council owns or manages for the community. This includes:

    • Parks and playgrounds
    • Footpaths and bike paths
    • Roads and bridges
    • Stormwater drains
    • Community centres, sports pavilions, libraries, and more

We want to keep these things safe, clean, useful, and working well — now and into the future.

  • Why do we need a plan?

    • We have over $2.8 billion in public assets.
    • Some things need to be repaired, others need to be replaced, and new things may need to be built.
    • This plan helps us spend money wisely and get the best value for our community.

What we have heard from you so far

We’ve been talking to lots of people across Brimbank to help shape the 10-Year Asset Plan. This included families, seniors, people living with a disability, carers, children, young people, businesses and local service providers.

In addition to broad community consultation, we also conducted a targeted deliberative engagement process with the Brimbank Community Voice Panel, with a specific focus on asset maintenance and renewal.

The 39-member panel was reflective of Brimbank’s demographics, ensuring broad representation of voices across gender, culture, geographic areas, and lived experiences.

Here's what we heard across all our consultations:

  • Most people support a mix of owned and leased buildings, as long as the services are high quality.
  • The community wants well-maintained parks, roads, paths and buildings that are safe, clean and accessible.
  • People care about upgrading old assets before building new ones, especially if it helps save money.
  • Green, flexible, and welcoming spaces are important—especially ones that support health and wellbeing.
  • Theres strong support for making spaces more inclusive and connected to nature.

How does this fit into the bigger picture?

The Asset Plan is just one part of a bigger Council plan to support our community.

It connects to:

  • Brimbank’s Community Vision 2050 – what we want Brimbank to look and feel like in the future.
  • Council Plan 2025–2029 – the steps we’ll take over the next 4 years to reach our goals.
  • Long-Term Financial Plan – making sure we spend money wisely over the next 10 years.
  • Service Plans – how we deliver important services, like cleaning parks or fixing roads.

All of these plans work together to make Brimbank a better place to live, work, and play.
